World Languages

Our World Language Department opens doors to the global society by offering engaging, high-quality courses in Spanish, Italian, and Mandarin. Students at Grover Cleveland High School develop real-world communication skills through interactive lessons, authentic cultural experiences, and project-based learning that bring language to life. Experiences within our courses help to inspire global citizenship, cultural understanding, and academic excellence, while preparing students to connect meaningfully across cultures and succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Our World Language classes also support students in preparing for the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) program. The New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) is a prestigious honor awarded to high school graduates who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in both English and at least one other world language. The NYSSB Program is designed to encourage language study and recognize various linguistic achievements. The Seal appears on a student’s diploma and transcript, helping them stand out to colleges and employers while affirming their cultural and communicative strengths.
