Social Studies

Hello from the Social Studies Department!

We are dedicated to developing informed, critical thinkers who understand the past, engage
with the present, and are prepared to shape the future. Through a rigorous and engaging
curriculum, students explore global and national histories, examine civic institutions, and build
the skills needed to participate thoughtfully in a democratic society. Over the course of four
years, students are required to complete:

● 9th and 10th grade students study Global History, culminating in the Global History and
Geography Regents Exam, which assesses their understanding of world history, cultures,
and global connections.

● 11th grade students study United States History, which concludes with the U.S. History
and Government Regents Exam.

● 12th grade students complete their last year by including one semester of Participation
in Government, providing students with hands-on civic learning experiences, and one
semester of Economics, focused on financial literacy and economic decision-making.

● Advanced Placement course offerings include:
○ AP World History: Modern (10th Grade)
○ AP United States History (11th Grade)
○ AP United States Government and Politics (12th Grad)

● The department also offers the Seal of Civic Readiness, recognizing high school students
who demonstrate exceptional proficiency in civic knowledge, skills, mindset, and
meaningful civic experiences.
